Elections are an essential feature of democracy. The chief aim of elections is to choose the best person out of a whole lot. Preparations for the elections are made months in advance. A very keen election for the state assembly was contested in my hometown this very year.
On the Election Day, camps were arranged at all the centres. The propaganda wasn’t noisy; instead individual, quiet approaches were being made. Every candidate was making his best effort. The supporters were busy trying to get voters for their candidate.
I reached a polling booth camp to witness the election scene. There was a great rush. Some very old people had also come to cast their vote. Ladies had come in a good number, Muslim ladies in their burquas. All were standing and waiting for their turn.
It was a good scene. But the most important event was a quarrel between a husband and a wife .The wife refused to vote for the candidate of her husband’s choice, and the two were having a heated debate about it – creating a big scene for all. After a few moments, the wife whispered something into her husband’s ear. The quarrel suddenly ended. Though I still remember that event very well, I fail to understand what did the wife say to her husband which solved the problem within no time.
