Anjali *, a 21-year-old student, decided never to go alone to PG. She took that decision because what she thought a matter of only metro cities ,happened with her. One day on her way to PG , she found that two boys on bike were stalking her. As quoted by her ,”The two boys were following me. They stopped at one point and gazed at me and when I crossed them , again they started their bike and stopped at some distance and were continuously looking at me . “

'Public Relations – Shifting Paradigms'

by Arjita

Indian Institute of Mass Communication (I.I.M.C.) faculty, Prof. J. Jethwani delivered a workshop on ‘Public Relations – Shifting Paradigms’ at the C.U.H.P. on February 19-20, 2014. Here is what she shared with us, in a nutshell -

What is Public Relations (PR)?
The DNA of journalism is objectivity, of the legal system is justice, of medicine is health. The DNA of PR is not objectivity or manipulation. It is not ‘relation with the public’. Its DNA is advocacy (of the client). PR is the art and science of managing an image professionally. It aims to occupy a share of the mind. It is a source of information for the media, and is technology driven. “What is hidden is news, the rest is PR.”

"Walter Lippman says that news is not the truth or the mirror of society; at best it spotlights certain facets of reality or life."

+ Johnson & Johnson’s management of the Tylenol Crisis was good and timely – the incident also led to the birth of new packaging of tablets - the ‘strip’.
+ Congress’s advertising teaches that PR should be pro-active rather than reactive.

A cap is not just a cap in Himachal Pradesh, especially during the election time. The traditional Pahari cap of Himachal Pradesh is copyrighted by different political parties as a part of their identity. Yes, we are talking about the Virbhadra’s green Himachali cap and Dhumal’s red cap; and the latest addition is the blue, which belongs to the BSP.

Elections are an essential feature of democracy. The chief aim of elections is to choose the best person out of a whole lot. Preparations for the elections are made months in advance. A very keen election for the state assembly was contested in my hometown this very year.

On the Election Day, camps were arranged at all the centres. The propaganda wasn’t noisy; instead individual, quiet approaches were being made. Every candidate was making his best effort. The supporters were busy trying to get voters for their candidate.

Gagan Singh’s house has become a place of great interest for the people of Chhatri, especially for children around the village. It’s not that Gagan Singh is a magician who can take children for a fantasy ride or entertain them with his juggling skills. His house started attracting village attention for the last few months, when Gagan decided to build an emu farm.

Dharamshala, a small town located in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range, is a beautiful town that attracts national and international tourists every year. Tourists visiting Dharamshala to spend their vacations in this ‘God’s Own Paradise’, bring in a lot of business opportunities for the locals. From hotels, to travel & tour packages, to food service – the local people provide everything the guests demand. But what is most alarming in the last few decades is the growth of its underground drug business. It has tarnished the image of this tourist town for worse.
