The emerging election results will be crucial for many political leaders across parties

As the counting of votes of the assembly elections across states has started toady morning, political parties and observers are eagerly weighing the emerging results. As the initial trends are setting up, at the time of this writing, BJP is leading in U.P. by bagging as much as 40 per cent votes, while in Goa it has so far got 30 per cent of votes. In Manipur, the party has so far secured more than 30 per cent votes while it is close to 45 per cent in Uttarakhand. For INC, performance in Punjab is the only relief as of now.  INC is leading with 37.8% votes in Punjab.

Looking at the emerging trends in the results, especially in the context of different exit polls, it is largely confirming the exit poll results. Last day exit-poll predicted BJP victory in U.P, Goa, Uttrakhand, Manipur but loss in Punjab. present trends shows similar trends. In the Punjab 157 seats and 59 seats needed for majority. In Uttar Pradesh there are 403 seats and 202 seats needed for majority. In 16th U.P. legislative assembly SP (Samajwadi Party) won a majority and formed government in the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav.

Out of the 40 assembly seats in Goa, 21 is needed for majority. In the previous elections, BJP alliance with MD (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak) defeated the incumbent INC government. Manohar Parikar was the Cheif Minister but in 2014 he resigned to take up the new assignment of being the Defence Ministry. L. Parsekar who replaced Parikar as the CM, as per the emrging results has lost the mandate this time.

In Uttrakhand, out of the 69 assembly seats, 36 are needed for forming the government. During the last elections, none of the parties won majority single handed, but INC formed government with help of PDP (Progressive Democratic Front). In Manipur, there are 60 seats where 31 seats are needed for majority.

Exit poll Results for Manipur Elections

By: Surinder Kumar & Rishika Sharma

Congress party's constant win for the past 15 years seems to be on the verge of an end, as many exit polls are coming out in favor of BJP in Manipur. According to CVoter Exit Polls, BJP may win more seats, around 28 out of 60, whereas Congress may come on second place with 20 seats. And other parties may grab 12 seats.

But IndiaToday-Axis Exit poll is showing different results. According to them, INC may get 30 to 35 seats, whereas BJP may get 16 to 32 seats and NPF may get 3 to 5 seats in Manipur.

In Manipur politics, from 1st July 1963 till 2012,  Congress or other parties were in rule, but BJP did not get any success till now. But, the picture will become crystal clear on 11th March, the counting day.The upshot we saw in Assam elections, will it turn out same in Manipur too or not, will be seen tomorrow.

Life at little-Lhasa: a confluence of cultures

By : Surinder Thakur

TIPA Secretary Tenzin Lhaksam Wangdue at his office
Mcleodganj is India’s little-Lhasa, a name given by the travel guides for the large settlement of Tibetan refugees here. Living that name to its fullest, Mcleodganj is now a Tibetan celebration of their own culture, religion and the way of life, in its full bloom.

Seeing them living their life in Macleodganj, is a beautiful image of the confluence of two cultures on a sharing mode. But is it that easy for people coming from another culture to adapt and carry on?

“Most of the Tibetans don't find much problem here in regard to communication or whatever”, says Tenzin Lhaksam Wangdue, Secretary of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), a major cultural entity for the Tibetan community in Dharamshala. “However, for new comers, language is a major issue”, says Wangdue.  According to him, there are NGO's who are conduct language training sessions for these new comers, trying to bridge the gap. “Teaching English and Hindi to the newcomers often takes lots of time”, adds he.
